And many of them have close relationships with prominent golfers. One such bond that has evolved over the years is between Niall Horan and Rory McIlroy.

The relationship between PGA Pro, Rory McIlroy and Niall Horan, a former member of the boy band One Direction, dates back several years. They grew close over their shared passion of golf after becoming acquainted through shared friends. The famous singer recently talked about his friendship with McIlroy.

Recently, This Town fame talked about how him and McIlroy got to be friends, and the bond that they share with each other. While talking in an episode of Fore Play Golf podcast, Horan revealed how he has a long-time relationship with Augusta National. Horan said that he has been coming there for nearly a decade now, his first appearance being back in 2014.

The famous songwriter-singer was then asked about the incident dating back to 2015, when he caddied for Rory McIlroy. In reply Horan said, “He [McIlroy] just texted me like a week before. He said do you fancy carrying the bag for the Par-3. I was like let me start crying.”

Later Horan was asked about his relationship with McIlroy before this 2015 incident, and whether they knew each other before that. Horan replied, ” Yeah, yeah, the old Irish thing has this connection. I guess sure and we have got a lot of mutual friends beforehand and we knew each other quite well.” 

The golfer-songwriter friendship blossoms

Horan caddied for McIlroy at the 2015 Masters Tournament Par-3 Contest. The next year, McIlroy returned the gesture by making a brief cameo  in Horan’s This Town music video. Additionally, Niall and McIlroy have collaborated on several charitable events. The events include Horan’s yearly “Horan and Rose” charity gala. Also includes McIlroy’s own foundation, which aims to better the lives of underprivileged children.

Horan and McIlroy also hang out and have fun together apart from their love for golf. They have been seen together at sporting events and concerts, and Horan has even been seen giving impromptu One Direction song performances during McIlroy’s birthday celebrations!
