This year, LIV Golf made its debut abroad in Australia with their Adelaide event. The all-Aussie squad Ripper GC, led by Cam Smith, was the crowd favorite in LIV’s Adelaide event, but Talor Gooch of RangeGoats GC and the 4Aces were the winners departing town. After starting the event with back-to-back 10 under-par rounds, Gooch managed to hold on to bag home $4 million. But amid the huge wins, there was also a major loss that left many infuriated!
The loss wasn’t for any player, but in fact was the “excessive damage” that was left behind after the event, which apparently angered a number of The Grange Golf Club members. The accusations have led to concerns about tournament organizers’ accountability and the environmental effects of such events. Golf Digest’s reported on the extensive damage incurred by the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament, and an English defector, wasn’t happy about it, and openly rebelled on social media.

Social Media bombing with reactions over LIV golfers comment
Lee Westwood is one of England’s most successful golfers, having won 44 events across four decades, five continents, and 20 countries. Last week, he jumped over to the new league and has been playing there since. Like all the other pros that jumped ship, he also has openly been backing the series and even stood up to Golf Digest for their recent report about the damage at the grange!
The Englishman took to Twitter to express his opinion on this fact by sharing Golf Digest’s report. He wrote, “Typical @GolfDigest bollocks. Wouldn’t expect anything else really.”

His reaction, of course, triggered many in the golf world, who rushed to his tweet to voice their dismay and express their displeasure! One fan commented on Lee’s post on Twitter, “Never happened at the WMO Lee…”
Never happened at the WMO Lee or at any major you never won Go have some cheap LIV champagne you abandoned Europe and the Ryder Cup For Cash and you’re probably the worst putter in professional golf Have a nice night.

“..It’s rubbish…,” said yet another fan.
I mean apart from the fact it clearly states (and shows) it’s a report on an article in an Adelaide newspaper- and it quotes members and the course manager – yeah it’s rubbish. The nonsense from the LIV brigade is now laughable – just about everything offends them.

Another user expressed his view over Lee’s post, “It’s complete crap...”
It’s complete crap I’m a member and there is no substantive issue at all and I look forward to the event next year and hopefully many years to come!!!

One user commented, “Golf Digest… ’Growing the shame’.”

Pay them no mind Westy….hi to Helen. Cheers mate !— Bobby Tee (@BobbyTeeitup) May 9, 2023
Yet another user wrote, “..not one photo or piece of evidence to show said damage…”
exactly @WestwoodLee , not one photo or piece of evidence to show said damage, hey it’s grass it will grow back. Poor Craig from the Grange lol

Golf fans clearly want more accountability and transparency when it comes to how sporting activities affect the environment, as the incident continues to receive attention on social media.
LIV Golf Adelaide event’s severe damage
The incredible hole-in-one by Chase Koepka at the Watering Hole and the overall joyous atmosphere at LIV Golf Adelaide were the highlights for golf lovers. A select few Grange Golf Club members, though, appeared to view things differently.
As per a recent report by The Advertiser, some Grange members are unhappy with how hosting the LIV Golf Adelaide event has affected the development of the league. They are particularly unhappy with the event’s aftermath, notably the course damage brought on by excessive beer spilling around the Watering Hole and the temporary structures, which led to a degraded course for six weeks.

Trevor Craig, a member of The Grange for 45 years, expressed his opinion to the Advertiser on the situation. “A profit-making circus has come to town and the people paying the price are the members.”
The yearly membership expenses of many members exceed $4,000. They also had to pay an initiation fee of $7,500. Those members make no secret of the fact that they are dissatisfied, not just with the event itself but also with the ramifications that followed.
