Arnold Palmer is one of the greatest golfers the sport has ever seen. Yet, that’s not all that he’s remembered for in the golf world. Off the course too late, golf legend Tom Watson created a huge name for himself through his kindheartedness and larger-than-life ventures. In the past few days, due to the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the 7-time major winner has been remembered quite a lot. And among those thinking of him is also Mike McGee, the husband of Annika Sorenstam, who recently paid a heart-warming homage to Palmer.

McGee’s touching message for Arnold Palmer

Since the Arnold Palmer Invitational began this week on the PGA Tour, the golf legend’s name rings through the years of golf fans a lot more often than usual. This, in turn, has caused a lot of memories of the former golf pro to rush back. McGee also saw a few of those, and taking to Twitter, he paid his respects to the 63-time PGA Tour winner. “@APinv week reminds me of how special Mr. Palmer was, & always will be,” he wrote.

He also shared some heart-melting pictures of the golf legend with McGee, Sorenstam, and their son, Will McGee. “Of course, he was the King of golf, but his work with the @APHospital & @WinnieHospital changed & saved so many lives in our community. Including ours,” he stated, reminiscing about the impact Palmer had had on their lives.

And Mike’s words couldn’t have been truer. Through his charitable ventures with the hospitals, he had turned the lives of many people, especially children, around. And through this, Sorenstam’s and McGee’s too. He was a “king” off the court too, and his legacy in both the sport and outside of it will certainly live on forever. As Mike put it, “Long live the King!”

How did Palmer affect Annika Sorenstam and Mike McGee’s lives?

Back in March 2011, the LPGA Tour star and her husband faced a critical situation. Their second child, Will, was born 13 months premature and struggled to survive the day he was born. Will eventually pulled through, and 57 days of intensive hospital care later, the couple took him home. And all that may not have been possible had it not been for Palmer.

It was at Palmer’s hospital in Orlando, the Winnie Palmer Hospital, that Will’s lifesaving birth took place. The late PGA Tour legend started the hospital in 2006 to provide world-class care for women and babies. Sorenstam can attest that they certainly did! Palmer additionally also made a personal visit to the McGee family after Will was born.
