Some of the notable changes include the wearing of shorts during matches, featuring a team-based format and team leaderboards as well as individual leaderboards. After the two seasons now, LIV Golf has found very high success. The Saudi-funded league has surely given high competition to the PGA Tour. Greg Norman reveals LIV Golf’s plan for the women’s series

LIV Golf was able to sign some notable athletes for the league’s inaugural season. The likes of Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and defending Open champion, Cameron Smith were some of the names on the list. The Saudi-funded league does not, however, want to remain there. The biggest names in women’s golf will be the focus of the league’s attention.

Furthermore, future plans were revealed by LIV Commissioner, Greg Norman in a recent interview. While speaking ahead of the league’s debut tournament in Adelaide. Norman disclosed the proposed plans regarding a women’s series. According to the Golf Digest, Norman said, “That is a discussion we have internally on a regular basis. I have personally had discussions with individual LPGA Tour players, Ladies European Tour. They love what our product is showcasing. They ask all the time, ‘How can we get involved?’ We’d love to see a LIV ladies series.”

However, the commissioner gave no timescale when announcing all of these ideas at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide. The women’s league would only be explored after this year’s LIV Golf sophomore season, according to the two-time Open Champion.

Saudi Golf’s contribution to the upliftment of women’s golf

Golf Saudi Arabia has been actively promoting women’s golf in the nation. Initiatives were undertaken to expand golf among Saudi Arabian women in recent times. It provides female golfers with the opportunity to compete in international tournaments.

The Saudi Ladies International, a tournament for women only that was a part of the Ladies European Tour, was established by Golf Saudi in 2018. The tournament not only drew some of the best female golfers in the world but also promoted women’s golf in Saudi Arabia. The Aramco Series, which it currently hosts, consists of six events on the Ladies European Tour. Moreover, number of American athletes have teed off in golf competitions in Saudi Arabia, including Lexi Thompson, Danielle Kang, Nelly and Jessica Korda, and Alison Lee. Apart from that, international golfers including Lydia Ko, Brooke Henderson, Atthaya Thitikul, Minjee Lee, Leona Maguire, and Anna Nordqvist have also taken part.

Moreover, with LIV’s connection with Saudi Arabia, women’s series is surely a matter of time. They together will try to bring women golfers to the league and make it more versatile.
