Rose Zhang shares heartfelt update on social media after Women’s PGA Championship loss
Just moments before the final round at Baltusrol was suspended due to thunderstorms, Rose Zhang had once again become the subject of much buzz. The 20-year-old prodigy had kicked off the day with back-to-back birdies after starting seven strokes behind 54-hole leader Leona Maguire. Following four steady pars, another pair of birdies on the 7th and 8th came to pass. Zhang’s electrifying start saw her surge up the leaderboard until she was just one shot off the lead at one point.
Many golf fans wondered if the Stanford product would do the impossible. After all, no player in LPGA’s decades-long history had emerged winner on their first two starts as a pro. To further fuel everyone’s expectations, Zhang made another birdie at the 11th once play recommenced.
Later, however, the golfer fell behind after two costly bogeys on No. 13 and 16. She later finished her day on 4-under 67, three strokes behind eventual winner Ruoning Yin. Regardless, the young golfer will be content with her strong showing, especially with the US Women’s Open drawing near.
On Monday, she even took to Instagram to share her experience from the recently-concluded major.
