Apart from the increased competition in the LPGA, there has also been a massive hike in the prize money. While the Tour has a big role in the positive change, it could only be achieved with sponsors like Plastpro and JM Eagle who are currently hosting the LA Championship. However, ahead of the ongoing event, the owners Walter Wang and his wife Shirley Wang threw a massive party for the all golfers and also offered gifts worth more than $71,000.

The ongoing JM Eagle LA Championship has provided some of the most enticing golf in recent weeks. But a day before the hot-headed competition on Wednesday, all participants indulged in the fun Pro-am event at the Wilshire Country Club. However, it was the after-party hosted by sponsorers that made the headlines.

LPGA golfers’ extravagant party

Along with many big names competing in Los Angeles, world number one Nelly Korda is also on the field. Though she isn’t having a typical good tournament, Korda did enjoy the party hosted by JM Eagle CEO Walter Wang and Plastpro CEO Shirley Wang after the Pro-am event. “It was great”, said Mr. Wang after being paired with Nelly for the fun golf session.

Moreover, Korda also reportedly spent an extra hour at the party. Walter Wang added, “When people say they’re having fun, it’s a good time, it just brings joy to your heart”. Food, drinks, and plenty of meet and greets were available during the pro-am party, as one might anticipate from an event of this nature. However, thanks to Plastpro and JM Eagle, there was a lot more at stake for the golfers to win at the party.

With exciting games to play at the party, 54 prizes worth more than $71,000 were dolled out for the players to win. Some of the goodies included airline flight credits, Amazon gift certificates, and American Express gift cards, with each worth thousands of dollars. If  Walter Wang and Shirley Wang’s pro-am party had so much to offer for the golfers, how much prize money did the JM Eagle and Plastpro provide for the LA Championship?

Prize money for the ongoing LPGA event

The JM Eagle LA Championship was only founded last year by the LPGA. During its inaugural event, it offered the golfers a $1.5 million prize money, with the winner Marina Alex taking home $225,000. However, this year, JM Eagle has decided to increase the prize money. The ongoing tournament has the golfers compete for the $450,000 winner’s purse as the total prize money stands at $3 million.

I want to do something different. I want to, hopefully, lead other companies to put more money into the LPGA and invest into the players”, said Walter Wang after doubling the prize money from last year. Moreover, the JM Eagle CEO intends to further increase the prize money for next year’s event. “Every year we do this we have to be better than the last year, right?”, joked Mr Wang about his intentions to increase the purse.

While it is unclear if the CEO would really increase the prize money, he does have the right intentions in mind. Most sponsorers hope to promote their brand while the Wang family wishes to elevate the LPGA. Though the Ladies’ Tour is just as exciting as any Men’s golf Tour, they lack the same finances. But with more sponsors such as JM Eagle and Plastpro, perhaps LPGA golfers can also be paid their worth.
