Earlier this year, Bryson DeChambeau joined many golfers to kickstart a new chapter in their professional life by joining LIV Golf. Their relationship with the PGA Tour has only gotten worse since then, thanks to the lawsuit by the defectors against their former Tour. However, in a recent conversation with Emma Carpenter, the Scientist shared what he wants from the American Tour.

DeChambeau, along with ten other defectors had filed a lawsuit against the PGA Tour. However, a few months later, eight players including Phil Mickelson, decided to remove themselves from the case.
Nonetheless, DeChambeau has remained intact with his decision and hopes to win back his $1.75 million, which the PGA Tour owes to him. Last week during his visit to Emma Carpenter’s podcast 5 Clubs, the Scientist shed light on his true intentions behind the lawsuit.

The millions owed by Tour come from Player Impact Program. It is a monetary award given to top-10 players who’ve created the most positive impact on the golf Tour. DeChambeau, being one of the most popular golfers on the course, finished at 5th position, earning him $3.5 million. However, he was only paid half of that and demands the rest from the lawsuit.

“They haven’t paid me the rest of my pip money that I earned”, said DeChambeau in the 5 Clubs podcast. “Last year, I was fifth on the list. And it was 3 million and the 175. Half of it. You know, you have to complete two obligations, which is playing a PGA Tour event that you haven’t played in four years, which is the Valero playing the Bolero”.

The 2020 US Open further gave details on how he had to pay visits to Junior Golf associations in Dallas to improve his position in the PIP rankings. However, since DeChambeau failed to fulfill some of the obligations of the Tour, they escrowed to pay him the rest of the amount.

The 29-year-old then states that it isn’t about the money. Instead, about the principle that the PGA Tour had promised. Bryson DeChambeau said, “I’m like look it’s not about the money. The money is not the point for me at all. It’s principal I’ve given you guys my body for last year”.
He ends by stating he has put his body on the line to make the fans entertained and seeks the money deemed to that. Though he wishes to compete in the PGA Tour, the lawsuit makes that possibility only much worse. However, in today’s world you never what’s going to happen next.
