John Daly is one of the senior and most contemporary golfers of all time. There are numerous records registered in the name of the PGA Tour legend. However, he has his techniques, unlike other players who believe that being fit is the answer to making excellent swings. In 2014, he asked an intriguing question regarding gym and fitness and explained his healthy ways.

Daly is well known for his party animal side and ‘bad boy’ attitude. Cigarettes and alcohol were the two friends he loved the most. As a result, he developed an addiction, which did not sit well with his career. However, now he is better than ever. He recently had knee surgery and is recovering. But in 2014, he loved cigarettes, and his idea of working out was something no one expected.

Let’s find out if you have the answer to his fitness question.

John Daly shared his idea of cardio

In 2014, he talked to Ewan Murray. The senior golfer compared the fitness regimes of young golfers to his. Daly did not find their workout exciting and said, “I’m overweight and everything, but we are all fit; we walk six or seven miles a day; that’s plenty of exercise for most people.” However, his idea of cardio was utterly unexpected, but it had written Daly all over. He explained the concept and posed a question, “Some guys want to do a little more cardio training; I can’t see me being allowed to smoke a cigarette on a treadmill. I don’t think they will let me into the gym if I do that. Will they?”

However, he stated that the young golfers were becoming quite mature compared to him. They used to follow their intentions. Although he didn’t think their practice schedule differed all that much from his own, there were several instances when he felt “I could have hit a few more balls earlier in tournament weeks, like I do now, to prepare myself a little better.”

It is not a surprise that the Claret Jug winner had such an idea. His other proposal of barstools on treadmills was a great one. Whether it is possible or not, we do not know, but it sounds fun. Currently, he is battling cancer but going strong. Daly paired up with his son and finished second at the PNC Championship 2022.
