Just a day ago, it was announced that Tiger Woods had undergone yet another surgery. And while the golf world recovered from that hard blow, it would have certainly hit another even harder: his caddie and close friend, Joe LaCava. But that wasn’t all the upsetting news fate had in store for the caddie. Among the golf legend’s recovery, he faced some more disappointment when a long-time friend did not hesitate to ring him up!
LaCava finds himself caddying for Tiger Woods’ friend
With Woods out recovering many thoughts, it would be a while before LaCava took to the course too. But surprisingly, the caddie was on the bag of Steve Sticker, the PGA Tour veteran at the Zurich Classic this week. Sticker and Woods share a very close bond. And LaCava, having caddied for Woods for so long, has developed a strong bond with them too.

Of course, seeing LaCava caddy for the 56-year-old this week was almost poetic with Woods being out recovering from his recent ankle surgery. But surprisingly, the long-time caddie wasn’t the PGA Tour veteran’s first call. In fact, many others were asked before him! Including LaCava’s son! Ahead of inviting the caddie to be on his bag at the Stricker, Joe called up Joe Jr., the caddie’s son. “I’ve had his son on my bag already this year. Delightful kid, Joe Jr.”

But LaCava Jr. wasn’t available, and eventually the Senior Tour pro turned to Joe himself. The star caddy readily agreed and was more than excited to be there. But upon hearing that his son was called up before him, he was a bit let down. “Now he’s upset that I asked his kid first,” said Striker, laughing, after the first round of the event this week!

Why didn’t Sticker ask LaCava earlier?
While many may assume that the Tour veteran thought Joe Jr. was more capable than his father, that wasn’t the case at all! Simply put, Stricker didn’t think himself worth the Star caddie’s time. “I could ask Joe, but I don’t think he’s going to want to come,” he stated, talking about what he thought to himself.

He claimed that he didn’t think caddying for a veteran like himself would be something LaCava would be interested in! “You know, 56-year-old guy, washed-up Tour player… so my thinking went away from Joe Sr,” he added. Eventually, after everyone else turned out to be busy, Sticker’s wife forced him to give LaCava a ring. And he excitedly agreed!
