DeChambeau had a great chance of winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2020. However, the possibilities became thin when he went rude to the cameraman continuously following him. The camera shot the bulkiest golfer getting out of the bunker and walking up next to the green. At last, the LIV defector lost his cool and rudely asked the cameraman if looking at him from this close was necessary.

They showcased his actions as angry outbursts instead of dedication to the sport. He said, “As much as we’re out here performing, I think it’s necessary that we have our times of privacy as well when things aren’t going our way.” Everyone reserves the right to privacy, and since golfers are always playing, they should have some liberty of privacy. And it wasn’t just for him. He said, “I feel like when you’re videoing someone and you catch Tiger (Woods) at a bad time, you show him accidentally doing something, or someone else, they’re just frustrated.” 

A former PGA member talked about all the golfers, including Tiger Woods. DeChambeau pointed out that it would be frustrating if it accidentally caught Woods on camera at a lousy time. If by any chance, they saw someone at the wrong time, it would be a very vulnerable moment for the person, and it would hurt their image terribly.

Why was DeChambeau worried about the image?

According to the eight times PGA tour winner, it was not the image he was worried about but the perspective. It was always more about the dedication to the game than anything else. And continuous camera attention can damage the brand, which would not be suitable for the sport and its players. He said, “We don’t mean anything by it, we just care a lot about the game. For that to damage our brand like that, that’s not cool.”
