Patrick Reed Might Be the Most Consistent LIV Golfer Despite Lack of Personal Crowns

Don’t let his lack of silverware delude you. Patrick Reed still rules the breakaway side with his consistent performance. It is easy to miss the bigger picture, but the 33-year-old has more top-five finishes under his belt than anybody on the breakaway side, including the likes of Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Yes, his world ranking has taken a hit following the LIV Golf switch. A mainstay in the top 50 for a better part of his career, Reed has slipped from the top 100 in the OWGR table. Regardless, American International’s success rate on the LIV Golf has the potential to spark a fresh debate.

Reed had three top-five finishes from his seven outings in the inaugural season, including a runner-up finish at the 2022 LIV Golf Bangkok. The former Masters champion backed that up with a further five top-five finishes last season. Reed also came a close second at LIV London last year.
Sans the two season-ending team championships in Miami, that’s eight top-five finishes from 21 outings. Reed has a whopping 38.1% top-five spots as Ernie, an X (formerly Twitter) user pointed out. Comparably, Dustin Johnson’s success rate is 36.3% on that front, while Cameron Smith has recorded a 36.1% top-five place.

Notably, in the upstart league, the 33-year-old had come within the top ten eight times. That, however, is way short of Dustin Johnson’s 15, and Talor Gooch’s 10. Patrick Reed had 25 top-5 spots in the PGA Tour when he joined LIV Golf, along with 57 top-10 places and nine victories, the last of which came at the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open.
Will we see a @PReedGolf victory soon in LIV? Did you know that he has finished in the Top 5 in 38.1% of the LIV tournaments that he has played in? That is the highest percentage in the League! Here is the Top 10 (min 5 events played)

Notably, Reed has also performed well outside the breakaway circuit. Last year, the 33-year-old came a close second at the Dubai Desert Classic. Aside from that, Patrick Reed tied for the fourth place in the season’s first Major. Unfortunately, Masters will be his only Major this season as of now.

Only last year, Patrick Reed was one of the few LIV Golfers teeing up at all four majors. The situation is markedly different this time, though. Reed has fallen to 106 in the world ranking from a career-high 6. In his last PGA Tour event, the 2022 Memorial, Reed was ranked 36. Since LIV Golf doesn’t receive any OWGR points – the world ranking authority denied LIV Golf’s request last year — Patrick Reed has fallen to 106th.
Although he still has the Masters exemption, courtesy of his 2018 victory at Augusta National, Reed has to rely on the USGA, R&A, and PGA for a spot in the other three Majors. The three-time Ryder Cupper had a T18, T56, and T33, finish in the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and the Open, respectively, last year. Reed will tee up at the LIV Golf Jeddah on March 1.
