Golf fans might hate Greg Norman for a lot of reasons. But he definitely won countless hearts when he allowed professionals to wear shorts at LIV Golf tournaments. In fact, some even thought that it was the first time someone stood up against the old-fashioned rules of the game. And it is safe to say that golf has been pretty stubborn in keeping things as they used to be hundreds of years back. But despite going by the rules, there are times when players expect official bodies to show a certain amount of leniency towards them.

A similar thing happened when a former professional golfer went to “a premier Sydney golf club” wearing a pair of black-colored socks. But little did he know that his decision was going to lead him into controversies of all kinds. Here’s how Ewan Porter described the incident:
“Was told I wouldn’t be able to play wearing black socks with black shoes and I needed to buy white club socks. Leaving this open for discussion, but I said out of principle, I’d prefer not to play than bow to archaic rules.” Well, no matter what happened, it was definitely an adroit move by the golfer. But that was not all!

Being an extremely vocal individual, who is currently an Australian broadcaster, Porter decided to take things to fans all around the world. But as soon as he took his story to the public, the golf club banned the PGA Tour star for alleged defamation.

But when you come to think of it, should wearing clothes of your choice be a real problem for the officials? After all, a black pair of socks was not going to give the player an undue advantage over other professionals at any point during the game. And thus, the harsh decision by the club received a huge backlash from golf fans on social media.

Surprisingly, there are also a few who believe it was right for the club to ban him. According to them, officials shouldn’t entertain breaking rules at all costs, no matter how big or small.
