No one could stand in the way of Bryson DeChambeau and his second U.S. Open win. Especially after the scintillating performance, he put up on the greens. But at the opposite end of his win was Rory McIlroy who missed out on yet another major title due to the LIV Golf Pro. And it seems the Northern Irishman failed to beat him again, all thanks to the fans.

A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF on their X handle while initiating a discussion. It put forth the question, “Who will win more major championships in their career — Rory McIlroy or Bryson DeChambeau?” The query created a lot of buzz in the community, leading the ‘Scientist’ to emerge victorious yet again.

McIlroy’s recent loss marked yet another failed attempt at the majors. It’s been a decade since the 26-time PGA Tour winner last lifted a major trophy at the 2014 PGA Championship. His defeat at Pinehurst made him the first player since Jack Nicklaus to finish seven times inside the top 10 at the U.S. Open. Bryson DeChambeau, on the other hand, raked in a lot of attention throughout the major, making him a fan favorite of the golf community. As a result, he towered over the 35-year-old both on the greens and the internet.

Netizens dub Bryson DeChambeau as the obvious choice

The LIV Golf Pro has a different approach to golf than other professionals. His gameplay has allowed him to create incredible clubhead speed and distance while modifying his equipment to meet those needs. From having graphite shafts in all 14 of his clubs to sporting huge grips and his irons boasting a curved face, Bryson DeChambeau sure makes the necessary preparations to suit his style.

A couple of fans couldn’t help but point out the same while choosing the 30-year-old LIV golfer over the 35-year-old PGA Tour pro: “Bryson. Younger, playing better golf and only needs a couple to catch him,”and Bryson. He’s 5 years younger!!!! He goes the extra mile, with game & equipment modification, with fans, and with content. And, the biggest reason, is no pressure! Rory has created a ticking time bomb of a career. It clearly affects him negatively.” It appears even Bryson DeChambeau having a YouTube channel helped the followers in their decision.

Rory McIlroy has 4 major titles to his name, including two PGA Championships (2012 and 2014), a U.S. Open win (2011), and an Open Championship victory (2014). All he needs is a Masters win to complete his Career Grand Slam. Unfortunately, he could only finish a T22 owing to figures of 4-over par overall after four rounds of play at the 2024 Masters. A user consequently commented, “Bryson DeChambeau for sure. Rory will get another. Bryson gonna get more. Would like to see Rory get the Masters I’m not sure that happens.” Another enthusiast responded, “Rory is an epic choker and major winners need to be closers, so it’s very easy to say Bryson,” while referring to his recent T2 finish. The Northern Irishman’s 2024 U.S. Open placement makes it his fourth runner-up finish at a major since his 2014 PGA Championship win.

McIlroy missed his chance to win another major title after two missed putts at par-4, 16 and par-4, 18 on Pinehurst. He was then spotted driving off in his car. Soon after, in a desperate need for a mental health break, he pulled out of the Travelers Championship. The pro did so while divulging how he will make a return at the Genesis Scottish Open to defend his title and then subsequently play at the Open Championship. A follower hinted at the same before choosing Bryson DeChambeau over Rory McIlroy: “I would have to argue Bryson due to success recently, Rory has to finally get over the mental hump if he wants to be in the discussion.”

What do you think? Do you feel as if DeChambeau will shoot past Rory McIlroy when it comes to major wins in the future? Or will the Northern Irishman clinch his Career Grand Slam and then keep on winning?
