Winning on the PGA Tour is every golfer’s dream. Meanwhile, it is made even sweeter when the athlete is able to rake in accolades along with the victory. However, there are cases where the professional manages to complete a record but it simultaneously hints at the unfortunate situation of the player. Well, enter Cameron Young and his PGA Tour career.

A tweet was shared by Golf Digest hours ago about the American pro on their X handle (formerly Twitter). Interestingly, the post went ahead to announce a certain record that was claimed by Young in the five years of his professional career on the Jay Monahan-led circuit.

The golfer turned pro in 2019. But even so, he has not managed to emerge victorious once on the PGA Tour. But, surprisingly, he has another feat to his name, the 26-year-old “has 7 runner-up finishes on the PGA Tour, the most of any player without a win in the last 40 years.” Truly saddening to see him miss out on the win seven times.

His recent finish came at the 2024 Valspar Championship where he missed out on the trophy and the title yet again for the seventh time in his PGA Tour career. During the same, he fell short of Peter Malnati by two strokes, all the while registering figures of 10-under 274 with scores of 69-69-68-68 over the four days of play.

Aside from the recently ended event, Cameron Young also finished T2 in six other contests. These include five tournaments in 2022 including the Sanderson Farms Championship, Wells Fargo Championship, the Genesis Invitational, The Open Championship, and the Rocket Mortgage Classic. What’s more, he has also finished T2 in the 2023 edition of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

It’s not as if the golfer has only been at the receiving end of misfortune in his career, despite boasting such an unfortunate accolade. Fascinatingly, Cameron Young does brag a total of two wins in his professional career, but it’s just that they are not on the PGA Tour.

Young’s comforting feats amidst misfortune

The 26-year-old has won twice professionally, with both triumphs coming on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2020, the year after he turned pro. He had emerged victorious at the AdventHealth Championship and the Evans Scholars Invitational presented by First Midwest Bank.

Meanwhile, the other wins in his career include a victory at the Lenox Advisors New York State Open in 2017 followed by another one at the 2018 Westchester Open. However, he was only able to claim both of these wins as an amateur. Anyhow, going forward in his upcoming events on the PGA Tour, Young would surely be hoping to finish better at the top of the leaderboard.
