It is no secret the internet is filled with plenty of keyboard warriors. Their anonymous identity gives them the confidence to taunt anyone they want. One such heckler was taken to court by Phil Mickelson, who had dissed him and his wife online.

Phil Mickelson can be seen expressing his witty character on the golf course. He has taken several trolls on himself over the years. But when one of his haters decided to troll Mickelson’s wife, he wasn’t pleased with it.

The online heckler whose identity was revealed by the 6-time Major Champion was a Canadian resident. The complaint was signed in San Diego County Court back in November 2011.

Mickelson decodes the heckler’s anonymity

This truth was discovered the hard way by a poster going by the aliases “Fogroller” and “Longitude.” On November 11 and 12, 2011, “Fogroller” wrote comments on Yahoo! Sports in which he made many allegations, including that Phil Mickelson’s wife had an extramarital affair and had given birth to an illegitimate child.

An upset Phil Mickelson decided to take action against the keyboard warrior. On November 21, 2011, he instead submitted a complaint to the superior court of San Diego County. The court gave Mickelson permission to summon Yahoo! Sports to testify on “Fogroller” and “Longitude.”

Due to the defamatory remarks, Mickelson recruited a legal team in Quebec, and on January 25, 2012, he sued Videotron to reveal the name and whereabouts of “Fogroller” in response. The Quebec court found in favor of Mickelson on February 6, 2012, and gave Videotron ten days to disclose the identity and location of “Fogroller.”

Though it still remains unclear what Lefty did once he found out the real identity of the heckler, it must have been awkward for the troll to face Mickelson in person.

Though Phil Mickelson was able to stop the online heckler, it must be difficult to avoid the taunts he receives while playing golf, especially after joining LIV Golf. During a last month’s US Open, the fans continuously mocked the 52-year-old for joining the Saudi-backed Golf Tour.

Though he received a warm wave of ovation before his tee shot, it swiftly changed following his series of bad shots. Mickelson dropped three shots in his opening five holes and then fashioned a birdie chance on the sixth, only to somehow four-putt and leave the green with a disastrous double bogey.

While the Lefty was speaking to his caddie, a fan shouted, “Phil, Al Horford, over nine and a half rebounds.” This was an indirect mock at the past of Mickelson’s addiction to gambling with the fan, indicating to bet on the basketball game.

However, Mickelson maintained his discipline and didn’t let the anger get the better of him. Moreover, now with his agreement to the nemesis of the PGA Tour, he must be ready to become cold-hearted.
