A thrilling final round of the DP World Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic has finally come to an end. The world number one Rory McIlroy clinched the top position in the final few shots against the LIV defector Patrick Reed. Following his win, another LIV star Phil Mickelson had a message for the PGA Tour loyalist.

After several months of lurking on Twitter, Mickelson is back on the social media space more frequently in recent weeks. Ahead of the much anticipated second season of LIV Golf, Lefty has found time to watch the European Tour event in Dubai. Let’s take a look at what he had to say.
What message did Phil Mickelson have for Rory McIlroy?
Despite a disappointing 4-under par in the final round, the Northern Irish star finished the Dubai Desert Classic with a total score of -19. This helped Rory claim a win with one stroke over his new arch-rival Patrick Reed. Apart from the latter LIV defector, McIlroy also had to endure a cryptic message from Mickelson after the third round.

While appreciating the world number one, Mickelson then indirectly pocked him for competing in a Middle Eastern country, while McIlroy has been a critic of the Saudi-funded Tour. Nonetheless, after his thrilling win in Dubai, Phil Mickelson had another message for McIlroy, but with a positive note.

“He held on”, wrote Lefty on Twitter, referring to McIlroy holding on to his third-round lead to claim the win. He further appreciated him by writing, “Great birdie birdie finish to win by 1. Exciting battle down the stretch. I hope everyone watched and enjoyed”. Though it is a rare sight where the six-time Major winner is seen admiring a PGA Tour star in recent months, McIlroy’s win was not easy.
After almost ending his 18th-hole tee shot in the pond, Rory bounced back with a birdie to claim victorious. With Mickelson enjoying the incredible golf, he will soon be competing again with LIV Golf, as he still looks for his maiden win in the lucrative Tour.
