The 2024 Presidents Cup will be kick-started later this month. Led by Jim Furyk, the dominant team USA is all set to take over the International teams once again this year. However, there have been several shockers this time in the captain selection. On September 5, Furyk completed the team, and weirdly enough, he chose Max Homa and Brian Harman over Justin Thomas for the team.

Well, this puts both the players automatically under huge pressure to compete well. His record has been an average of 3-1-1. Now the question is will the 33-year-old be able to tackle the pressure on the field? Before dealing with it on the course, Homa decided to battle one such scrutiny off the course.
Max Homa plays a game of wit for trollers
Max Homa has appeared in 20 events this season and has been able to bag only three top-10 finishes and no win. Being a public figure puts him under the limelight constantly with criticism coming in from all directions. Following this, the American professional expressed his desire to just disappear from the trolling world and take a good long break. A few hours ago, he tweeted, “Just one time I’d like to go on a boy’s trip where we catch up on sleep and relax as much as possible instead of pushing our bodies to the absolute limit.”

To this, a lot of PGA Tour Pros, like Kevin Kisner and Justin Thomas, who have been under the same scrutiny agreed. However, the golf fans seem to have their own ideologies of the statement and instead made fun of Max Homa’s shared wish of being able to have the time of his life. However, Homa decided to jab back at trolls this time.
The 33-year-old retweeted the post updated by the PGA Tour, and sarcastically wrote, “Some of the comments to this are *chef’s kiss* hilarious”. He also added in a bit of basketball humor, and compared articulating text messages on the Internet to be a dying form just like that of the mid-range jumper. “Reading comprehension is a lost art like the mid-range jumper”, he wrote.

The pressure only seems to be booking up for Homa in the upcoming weeks. Will he be able to keep up with the expectations of Furyk and give his best performance at the Presidents Cup? or will the golf community be proven right once again?
Why did Jim Furyk choose Homa over Justin Thomas?
Justin Thomas has landed himself in the top 10 five times this year and also qualified for the Tour Championship. However, he settled for a T14 along with Taylor Pendrith. On the other hand, Max Homa could not even qualify for the finale of the FedEx Cup playoffs, since his ranking dropped down to 46 on the standings after a T33 finish at the BMW Championship. Thomas has had a better 2024 run when compared to Homa.
However, Furyk went with the latter, stating, “I look at Max’s attributes and look at how he’s played the last two years: undefeated record in Charlotte, our best record last year in Rome, and I think then you go to a lot of the intangibles. … I guess when I say an ’emotional leader’, I also look at kind of the glue, a guy that pulls the team room together,” when asked about the decision. The 6X PGA Tour winner will also be a part of the field at the Napa event (Fortinet Championship) next week, just days before the Presidents Cup. So he is trying to get all the practice done.
