Standing as one of the most challenging yet enthralling sports of all time, golf is one of the most popular games in the world. Professional golfers have spent countless hours on the field practicing the sport before they reached a certain level in their careers. And they have been able to inspire millions of children who are on the way to turning their golfing dreams into reality. However, things are not the same for the students of the University of Colorado anymore. A recent update has not only shocked the aspirants but also their parents about an uncertain golf future for their kids.
UCCS takes a major cost-cutting step leaving golf students unhappy
The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs has recently made a huge announcement that has left students in deep distress. According to their recent statements, the UCCS is cutting down both men’s and women’s golf teams. And in defense of its actions, the university said it was a way of cutting down costs.

The spokesperson for the UCCS, Chris Valentine, explained how it was a necessary decision to take. As per his statements, the university was able to save nearly $250,000 calling golf their most expensive sport. Explaining the reason behind the major step, Valentine said it was a way to deal with the aftermath of the entire COVID-19 situation. Blaming it on the pandemic, he said, “Everyone has to tighten their belt a little bit through these times,”.
However, the decision has certainly made a huge impact on the parents as well as students of the university. A UCCS golf parent, Tor Saile, mentioned how there was no prior warning about the decision. “There was nothing, no discussion ever, the coaches had no idea,” he said. On the other hand, Valentine said the students received a six-month notice from the university.

Saile didn’t agree and said that his daughter, who plays on the junior team, is devastated to find out about another ruined senior year. According to his claims, the team helped in raising funds for the equipment and uniforms. But if they had known about the upcoming scenario, they could have pushed things even further to raise money. “Unfortunately, they never gave us that opportunity,” he claimed.

Valentine said he was helping students transition to new places to learn golf to deal with the current situation. He also mentioned that some students already had commitments to other universities and coaches outside UCCA. Nonetheless, the university’s decision is still not acceptable according to the students and their parents.
