But the yesteryear legend also has numerous members in his own household bearing the same famous surname. While all are big fans of the golf great, some of the younger ones in the family have a sweet nickname for Nicklaus, which he revealed recently.

Jack Nicklaus reveals his adorable nickname

Having married his wife Barbara on July 23, 1960, the couple shares five kids – Jack Nicklaus Jr, Steve, Nancy O’Leary, Gary, and Michael. Most of the golfer’s children are already married, which explains Nicklaus’ vast family.

Amidst the conversation during a press conference, the 18-time major championship winner was asked what his younger ones called him in the house. “What do they call you and Barbara, Grandma Grandpa?” he was asked, to which Nicklaus immediately replied, “Peepaw. I am Peepaw.”

The golfer is well known for his more-popular nickname across the golf course – ‘The Golden Bear’. The 83-year-old earned the nickname thanks to his exploits in the sport.

While Nicklaus’ love for his family is plainly visible, he also claims to have an extended family which is not blood-related. The golf great considers the children of his Nicklaus Children’s Hospital as his own, for which he raises funds through charity.

Nicklaus proudly talks about his extended family

The 83-year-old made a public appearance at the ongoing Masters Tournament, where he served as one of the honorary starters. He also sat down for press conferences and talked about his life at a ripe old age.

In a conversation about his family, Nicklaus revealed the extraordinary number of grandkids he shares with his wife Barbara, whom he met during their freshman year at the Ohio State University. “We got 22, soon to be 24 grandkids with Gary getting married,” he said.

But that wasn’t it. Nicklaus went one step further to inform the good news about his great-grandchildren. “We’ve got 3 great grandkids with 3 more on the way. So there gonna be a lot of little Nicklauses running around for a long time,” he proudly said.
