The PGA Tour moves into its eighth event of the 2022 season as the Honda Classic gets underway at the PGA National Resort and Spa- Champions course. Notably, ahead of the start of the event, the Tour had a really important meeting in relation to the Saudi Golf League.

The Saudi Golf League has been in the spotlight for quite some time now. There are various speculations pertaining to golf professionals receiving huge offers to join the SGL. This includes a whopping $135 million offer to Bryson DeChambeau to become the face of the Saudi Golf League, which DeChambeau, though, denies.

However, the PGA Tour has an upright stance over the consequences of joining the Saudi Golf League. The Tour says that it will temporarily suspend or likely impose a full-time ban on a professional associating with the Saudi-backed golf league. Now, the PGA Tour commissioner has something important to say to the professionals.

Jay Monahan spoke to the professional earlier in the week, before the start of the Honda Classic. Detailing the minutes of the meeting, he said, “I told the players we’re moving on and anyone on the fence needs to make a decision. All this talk about the league and about money has been distracting to our players, our partners, and most importantly our fans.” He added, “We’re focused on legacy, not leverage.” 

One of the professionals asked Jay about what will happen if they join the SGL. The professional said, “He pointed to the door, we knew what that meant.”

2022 Honda Classic leader

On the business end, Daniel Berger leads the 2022 Honda Classic. The American professional is currently at a score of 11-under-par. As a result, heading into the final round with a five strokes lead. Not to forget, Berger is making his comeback after he withdrew from AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.
