All the LIV Golf players are now in Mayakoba for the league’s first event of the season. Many fans in the golf world have been eagerly awaiting this week. After all, they finally get to see some of their favorite golfers take the course once more! Among those fan favorites is also the 3-time PGA Tour winner, Pat Perez. Last year he was a part of the Team Championship winning team, the 4Aces GC. And many have since been excitedly awaiting to see what he has to offer this season. Well, what he offered was 10 words that infuriated many in the golf world!

Pat Perez disses the PGA Tour

Perez, just like the rest of the field of 48, is at the Camaleón Golf Course this week. In an interview at the venue, the former tour star was asked how he felt about starting the season in Mexico. The golf pro has a clear 10-word response for the reporter. “I love it because we’re here and the tour’s not,” he stated smugly, using the chance to trash the PGA Tour as he had done so many times before.

The public erupted with laughter as soon as he ended his bold statement with an “end quote.” But the fans on Twitter certainly didn’t find it funny. They clapped back at him for his Tour-trashing statements. Many suggested that the fact that he referred to the PGA Tour side as “The Tour” was enough proof of who was the real deal here.

Fans also chimed in, saying that his statement made absolutely no sense. They claimed that Perez was all talk and, when it came to the course, he could do nothing. Only time will tell if Pat and the 4 Aces can prove them wrong.

What do you think about Perez lashing out against the Tour? Has he sparked a fight that will only grow now? And do you think the fans’ responses were spot on?

The controversy of the Mexico course

Perez’ trash talk was mainly focused on the fact that LIV Golf had poached the Mayakoba course from the Tour. Until November last year, the El Camaleón Golf Course, now home to LIV’s second season’s inaugural event, was part of the PGA Tour schedule.

The Tour and the Mayboka Course were partners for nearly 15 years, with an event being held there every year. Moreover, as part of the Tour’s 2023 schedule, the World Wide Technology Championship was held there too early in November last year. But soon after, the course partnered up with LIV Golf, and the Tour cut ties with it. This also means that that golf course has seen both sides of golf in the same season. Talk about strange!
