The “Non Political” Reason LIV Golf Never Got OWGR Accreditation, Official Reveals

LIV Golf has officially withdrawn its request for accreditation from the OWGR. While the breakaway league cited its reason for issuance of an official letter stating the reason being the OWGR’s “little willingness to productively work with us,” the OWGR’s top associates have, however, reasoned their stance against the LIV Golf’s request in an entirely different manner.
“We are not at war with them [LIV Golf],” they declared, taking a completely different tone than Mr. Norman. The OWGR board chairman, Peter Dawson, even declared the core of their reasoning to leave LIV Golf’s plea unheard rooted in “technical” grounds rather than “political” grounds.
Dawson’s exact words on his non-political reasoning were, “This decision not to make them eligible is not political. It is entirely technical. LIV players are self-evidently good enough to be ranked. They’re just not playing in a format where they can be ranked equitably with the other 24 tours and thousands of players to compete on them.”

The root of this claim rested on the ground that even though mathematical format can come to the LIV golfers’ rescue in matters like the 36-hole cuts, the 72-hole tournaments, or even the average field size of 75 players. Matters like the PIF-backed golf league having a lack of turnover, the issues surrounding a recurring field, or the persisting dearth of promotion and relegation are some problems with no solutions. Thus, it is technically difficult for them to give LIV Golf players world-ranking points for their performance in the Saudi-backed league.
OWGR officials might think this way, but LIV star, Bryson DeChambeau thinks otherwise. During one of his frustrating appearances, the golfer said, “You know, they said you need certain requirements. We’ve fulfilled all those requirements, despite what everybody thinks. If you go look at their handbook, we have fulfilled every single criteria.” But why has Greg Norman think differently and have given up hope entirely?
Greg Norman’s reasoning for losing hope in the OWGR
LIV Golf’s CEO’s reasoning for losing hope in the OWGR was not just repeated denials from the officials but also the ravages that the waiting time has caused on the destinies of the players who have been faced with the disadvantage. So much so that even if points are allotted to the defectors considering the setup and norms of the OWGR that favor the PGA Tour, according to Norman, it would not benefit them in a proportionate way.

He further illustrated his stance by presenting the fact that “only four players inside the top 50 are not PGA Tour players (Jon Rahm (3), Tyrrell Hatton (17), Brooks Koepka (30), and Cam Smith (45).”
All in all, Greg Norman’s loss of hope is closely linked to his belief that the prevalent system of the OWGR no longer “protects the accuracy, credibility, and integrity” that it was once famously known for.
