Tiger Woods is back with a new look. But one that fans aren’t sure how to respond to. TW Legion reported that pictures of the new Sun Day Red apparel have landed on Getty Images. The famous red shirt comes with a pair of black hoodies with the Sun Day Red logo—a leaping white tiger—etched on them. TW Legion, the Tiger Woods fan page, tweeted, “Official photos of Tiger Woods (sic) new apparel line SUN DAY RED have landed on Getty Images.

The red polo obviously grabbed attention first. It’s a nod to the iconic Nike Red tee-shirts that the 15-time Major Champion made part of golf lore. The new one, however, has the logo under the button placket instead of the chest where the famous Swoosh used to deck. So far, golf shirts, hoodies, pullovers, and jackets are available.

Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press reported that the brand, although owned by TaylorMade, Woods’s equipment sponsor, will have its own in-house designers and staff. Brad Blankenship, of Quicksilver and RVCA, is the new president of the brand. Sun Day Red wants to launch its products officially sometime between April and May, between the first two majors of the calendar year.

I have learned so much over the years and have a lifetime of experience adjusting my apparel and footwear to help me play better based on the way it was constructed. There are things that I could tell you that no one knew I was doing over the years. I’m ready to share those secrets with the world,” Tiger Woods said in an official statement. But what about fans?

People shared their thoughts online. Many hated the product and the design. Calls of “ugly” and “terrible” echoed through social media channels.

Fans are puzzled by Tiger Woods and his new brand!

It was always going to be hard to replicate or come close to what Nike and Tiger Woods have achieved together in the last three decades. But the new brand is getting bashed from the get-go. Some of them were not impressed with the logo. They think the 15 stripes that stand for his 15 major triumphs, look horrible.

Many were baffled by the name as well. They pointed out why was it three words instead of just ‘Sunday Red’.

Sun Day Red is marketed as a lifestyle brand for both athletes as well as non-athletes. It includes apparel and even cashmere sweaters and shoes. With the general audience not liking their products, where do they stand? Only time will reveal this.

A few fans stated they wouldn’t buy any of the products. While they are looking forward to Woods’s press conference, they are particularly disappointed by the brand. However, is this something the brand was expecting?

David Abeles, chief executive of TaylorMade, said in an interview that the designs would be very different from what Woods had been wearing. “The design language of the products is completely different,” he said. And regarding the space between ‘Sun’ and ‘Day’, he said it was for underlining the brand as more than a weekly fit.

Regardless, a few fans straightaway called it “ugly” and horrendous. The logo placement and the designs—nothing sat well with them.

Ironically, many users liked the black hoodie but not the red polo. Some will have a hard time getting over the split with Nike; more so after seeing the new apparel.

It seems Sun Day Red will take some time to resonate with fans. It remains to be seen if these are just knee-jerk reactions and if the perception changes when they start selling the product. Sun Day Red is a result of the convergence of fashion and sports, which is known as lifestyle. Many athletes see long-term potential in such areas.
