Tiger Woods has various stories associated with each event that he has played. However, there is one funny story regarding an event that he did not play, back in 2002. Wright Thompson recently revealed an intriguing incident when Woods faked an injury so he could skip a PGA Tour event.

A funny story about Tiger Woods faking to miss an event

Wright Thompson wrote a lengthy and extensive story for ESPN Magazine titled, “The Secret History of Tiger Woods.” It provided insight into Tiger’s life, revealing a few great stories about his career. However, the extensive piece did not include a story about Tiger faking an illness to avoid competing in an event. Thompson appeared on ESPN’s radio show namely “Mike & Mike” and revealed about the incident which was committed from the draft of his piece.

The story dates back to 2002, when Tiger had won the Masters and the US Open. He had to play the Western Open in Chicago two weeks before the Open Championship in Muirfield, Scotland. And as Thompson describes it, Woods called in sick and did not play the event.

Thompson said, “I accidentally found out, because I was talking to all the people he spear fishes with. Dude was like, ‘man, he wasn’t sick, he was spear fishing with me.’ And he was like, We were on a boat called the Jolly Roger II. I talked to the captain of the boat and the dive master, and they were like, ‘he wasn’t sick, he was on our boat spear fishing.”

He added, “He wants a life. Golf is important to him, but he has interests outside of this.” Well, it is a good way to follow your hobby. This is probably one of the funniest Tiger stories ever.

When did Woods win his third green jacket?

Tiger clinched another win at Augusta National in 2002. He won the 2002 Masters with an overall score of 12-under-par. He won the event with a comfortable three-shot cushion. Woods carded a final round of one-under-par, 71 on route to winning the third green jacket of his career.

His final round of one-under-par, 71 included three birdies and one bogey on the front nine. As a result, he moved out in two-under-par, 34. Tiger made only a single birdie and two bogeys on the back and made the turn in one-over-par, 37 on route to a famous victory at Augusta on Sunday. He took home a prize money share worth $1,008,000.
