Tiger Woods couldn’t make the cut at the 150th Open Championship. Since the Old Course will not host the tournament for a long time, it is likely this was his last time playing at the home of golf. While the news itself is depressing, the heartbreaking thing is that it will be the last time the golf world will get to see the legend play this year!

“I have nothing. Nothing planned. Zero,” Woods answered when asked about his schedules this year during the press meet after round 2. “Maybe something next year, I don’t know,” he added. “But nothing in the near future.” 

Since the 2022 Masters Tournament ended, the 46-year-old has been looking forward to playing in his favorite course in the world. However, he is still recovering from the injuries he had in the accident last year and hasn’t been able to play well in any tournaments ever since. 

The golfer only had plans to play at St. Andrews after the accident!

“I was just hoping to play this one event this year,” Woods opened up what had been his original schedule after the accident. “I was lucky enough again, got three events, and they are all majors,” he added.

The Masters Tournament, the season’s first major, was the golf legend’s comeback tournament since his accident in 2021. Although limping, he finished all four rounds of the event. He then attended the second major, the PGA Championship, and advanced to the final rounds. However, he had to withdraw because of health issues.

Woods wanted to play in the Open Championship, no matter what. Therefore, he chose to rest after the second major, only to return last week at the JP McManus Pro-Am. 

Tiger Woods at the 150th Open Championship

As a former champion, Woods’ Open week began on Monday by participating in the yearly traditions of The R&A. He played in the Celebration of the Champions as a team with Rory McIlroy, Georgia Hall, and Lee Trevino and attended the Champions Dinner with John Daly and other former tournament champions. 

The 3-time Open champion had struggled in round 1 of the event; he made five bogies and two double bogies. He finished the round with a 6-over 78. In the second round, he made mostly pars and only a double bogey and two bogies. After two rounds, he got eliminated after scoring an overall 9-over.
