

Former New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, has made headlines in the news once again. But it’s not for any political reasons. He has accomplished what professional golfers fail to do in their entire careers – shooting a hole-in-one. Key’s achievement was met with tremendous celebration from onlookers, which included notable sports celebrities.

John Key sparks celebration with a hole-in-one
Key was at the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club at a charity event dotted with other sports personalities. Among a range of rugby players, cricketers, and golfers, the 38th Prime Minister of New Zealand shot a remarkable albatross at the par-3 8th hole of the course.
Key used his wood to take advantage of the short distance, which occurred in his fifth hole of the day. While there wasn’t much optimism before he stood at the tee, the ball dropping into the cup sparked wild celebrations from his playing partners. Check out the full clip of Key’s jaw-dropping moment:

Which golfer celebrated with Key on his hole-in-one?
Key was walloped over by fans and enthusiasts cheered by the politician on his rare achievement. Among those was DP Tour player, Ryan Fox, who is a fellow countryman of Key. The Kiwi golfer is a 3-time European Tour winner, with his recent victory coming at this year’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Fox has also been a key figure in his home tour, the PGA Tour of Australasia. He has three victories on the co-sanctioned tour, with the last one coming at the ISPS Handa at the Lake Karrinyup Country Club in 2019. The 35-year-old has vast experience with different tours, having played simultaneously in multiple tournaments before. He was last seen at the Australian Open, where he didn’t finish the competition.

Key’s hole-in-one turned out to be a blessing for the event, with internet searches and social media views shooting up. Key made the ace at the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which has catered to fulfilling the wishes of terminally ill children. The event was set up in Auckland and included many popular personalities who came together for the social cause.
