Collin Morikawa surprises Danica Lundgren

According to WGC- Dell Technologies Match Play’s Twitter, this is regarded as a full circle moment for Lundgren where she met her all-time favorite golfer. The surprise just did not end at the casual greeting, Lundgren was assigned to be the Standard Bearer for Morikawa’s group today.

Upon asking about her favorite groups to be Standard Bearers with, she said, “My favorite was Billy Horschel and Scottie Scheffler”. And then Morikawa informs her about being Standard Bearer for his next day’s practice; to which she happily says, “I am so excited”.  The excitement and nervousness were clearly visible on her face and in her voice. She was definitely taken aback!

“I have been wanting to meet him for like forever” said Danica Lundgren. Her forever became reality on Tuesday when Collin Morikawa surprised her before his practice round. Danica was seen blushing from ear to ear when Morikawa greeted her post-practice and exclaimed, “Good to see you again”. To which Lundgren replied, “good to see you too.”

Lundgren has been First Tee at Greater Austin since 2013. In 2017, Danica Lundgren was ranked 1st at Lone Star Junior Open PGA Superstore. Lundgren scored 4th place in Drive, Chip, and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club in 2018. She scored 1st place in Texas Women’s Golf Championship and LPGA-USGA Greater Austin Team in 2019. She was the standard bearer at WGC-Dell Tech Match Play for the years 2021 & 2022.

Lundgren spoke after a heartfelt conversation with Morikawa, “I just learned not only like how to be a better golfer but just like a better person from his answers”. This definitely was a heartfelt moment for both Lundgren and Morikawa. It is safe to say that her day was pleasantly made.
