How did Charley Hull’s caddie learn about golf?

Adam Woodward comes from Cowra, Australia. There, he narrated to The PLTCA that his father was a manager at one golf course, and from then on, he was intrigued by the game. Then, in 1995, his family’s close friend and Cowra-based golfer, Mardi Lunn, offered Woodward a chance to caddie for her as she made her way to the LPGA Tour.

20-year-old Woodward at the time took the chance as he was unhappy with his parents’s travel business. He decided to do the job only for a year. But fate had other plans for him! He was on Lunn’s bag for six years and also caddied on the Seniors and Nationwide Tours. He loved caddying so much and got one opportunity after another, and he has now been caddying for almost 3 decades. Adam Woodward’s breakthrough, however, came when he caddied for Sun Youn Yoo.

In 2012, Yoo went on to win the Kraft Nabsico Championship, and that is the only major victory Woodward has assisted in for any golfer in his long career. Although he has had many successful events in many places around the world with Hull, something that Woodward enjoys about his work. With Woodward, Hull has won five events (2 on the LET, 2 on the LPGA Tour, and one in 2020 at the Rose Ladies Series—Event 1).

Adam Woodward also talked about what he likes about his job. The travel that comes with the job and the buzz and adrenaline rush of winning the tournament are his favorite parts. “Caddying has been a great job and taken us to many wonderful places around the world. As well as all over Asia trying amazing foods. The feeling of contending and if you’re lucky enough winning a tournament is such a buzz, and gets the adrenaline going! This is one of the biggest reasons I think that brings us back year after year,” said the bagman.
