Just recently, the final playing field for the fast-approaching PGA Championship this season was released. While many new names were added to the list, one name absent was Sergio Garcia. The LIV golfer joined the Saudi-funded league last summer, and perhaps because of it now, fans will not witness the Spaniard’s magic on the East Course of Oak Hills Country Club next week.

The fact that Garcia has not made the field of the event has caught the attention of everyone in the golf world, including one of the biggest golf media houses, Golf Digest, which recently reported on it with an interesting fact about the pro’s major championship journey. And boy, did the news drive the fans berserk!

A few Tour stars like Tiger Woods and Will Zalatoris have been omitted from the 155-player field for this year’s second major, due to health concerns. But another name whose absence has raised plenty of eyebrows is Sergio Garcia’s. The Spanish golfer has been in attendance for every major championship since the 1999 British Open.

The last time the former Masters victor missed out on a major due to eligibility criteria was at the 1999 US Open. Since then, Garcia has only missed one other major championship, the 2020 Masters, only because he tested positive for COVID-19. Sharing this statistic, Golf Digest took to Instagram and wrote, Sergio played in 84 straight majors from 1999 to 2020. 😲.” It is certainly both shocking and unfortunate for fans to see him miss out on a major due to eligibility after all these decades!

The stats, of course, have garnered a lot of attention since they went online, and they have attracted many mixed reactions from the fans. After all, it is a piece of information that compels one to think, and naturally, they had mixed reactions when the final list of 155 players was let out.

Fans react to Garcia’s absence at the upcoming major championship

Since his jump to the other side last summer, Garcia has suffered the wrath of the fans and the consequences of his shift. From tumbling down through the OWGR ranks to a low that he’s never seen before to constantly being scrutinized by the public, he has been on quite a downward spiral. And while this may bring up the sympathy of others, the cold, reality of the golf world is quite different!

You won’t be missed Sergio .. it’s fine .. good luck on the exhibition tour”

“Will be much better without him!”

“And we won’t miss the brat … Love #rochesterny

Fans also pointed out that this was all part of the consequences of joining LIV Golf.
