‘The Match’ has seen quite a few pairings and quite a few players return to the exhibition game. Tiger Woods himself has played at the event twice already and returns for a third time this weekend. There is another star who is ahead of Woods in appearances and has already been to three events – NBA legend, Charles Barkley, who returns to ‘The Match’ for the fourth time in its seventh edition.

The NBA star has been an analyst at two of the matches, in 2018 and earlier this year in June. He also played at the exhibition event in November of 2020, partnering with Phil Mickelson. The pair went on to take down NFL great, Peyton Manning and NBA superstar, Steph Curry.

In a recent call, where the competitions sat down to have a chat before ‘The Match,’ Woods also took the opportunity to call out Charles Barkley for his commentary. In 2018, when Woods was on the course with Manning and beat Mickelson and Tom Brady, Barkley held the mic.

Woods and Barkley used to be very close. But since Woods’ 2009 scandal, the two have supposedly never spoken. While many fans assumed Woods was lashing out at Barkley because of the animosity that has grown between them, the golf pro went on to justify his reasons.

Tiger Woods lashes out at Barkley for inappropriate language

The golf legend recalled instances where Barkley was unfitting with his words. He said, “Charles was saying something probably very inappropriate for most of the viewers.” The golf pro went on to add that the constant inappropriate comments were a distraction for the players, and that they couldn’t respond to stop him.

The golf legend spoke of how he, himself, was lacking when it came to vocabulary. He said, “My vocabulary is very limited in that regard.” Woods added, explaining that he used the same words to talk about “verbs, nouns and adjectives.”

Woods also added that although Barkley’s commentary was good, it wasn’t something that the stars usually spoke about. He stated, “The chatter is good but it’s not quite the chatter we’d normally have amongst ourselves.” The 15-time Major winner then pinpointed that “there are certain words you can’t use” in the current day and age, but Barkley failed to abide by that when at the event.
