Roger Federer currently holds 20 Grand Slam titles, one ahead of Rafael Nadal and four more than Novak Djokovic. However, while the Swiss maestro cannot stop his arch-rivals, is he okay with them to surpass his Grand Slam record?

While Federer hasn’t added a major title to his haul for two years, Nadal and Djokovic have shared the last seven Grand Slams among themselves. However, the 38-year-old says he’s “okay” with his nemesis starting to approach his Grand Slam tally. Roger Federer feels he is powerless to stop his competitors from winning more titles.

“I cannot stop them”: Roger Federer

“It’s okay, they (Djokovic and Nadal) are truly incredible players. I mean, I cannot stop them. What I can do is only control what I can control.” Federer said in an interview with El Comerico.

Federer also recalled the day he broke the previous all-time record held by Pete Sampras of 14 Grand Slam titles. The Basel native clinched his 15th major trophy at the 2009 Wimbledon championships to set the benchmark and extend it further several times.

“The special moment was breaking the record, not having the record,” Federer recollected. “And Nadal and Djokovic should also be very happy when that happens.”

What the future holds for Federer?

The Swiss star had some big moments this year, winning the Miami Masters, as well as Dubai, Halle, and Basel. He also had to deal with the heartbreak of losing Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic after squandering two match points.

As it appears, Federer is heading into the twilight of his career but the World No.3 will definitely play until the end of the next season. However, the 38-year-old has repeatedly stated there are no plans in place for the near future for him to hang up his boots.
