It’s the final day of the Wimbledon Championships 2021 and we have the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic take on Matteo Berrettini. On the few occasions the two have played in the past, it has always been the Serb who has emerged on the winning side.
Recently, American legend John McEnroe spoke on the finals at the Championships this year. With the form Djokovic has been in, it is hard to disregard him as the favorite. After winning the first couple of Grand Slam events this season, one expects him to beat Matteo Berrettini in the final.
Playing down the Italian’s chances, McEnroe stated, “It is going to be hard for Berrettini to handle the nerves. We saw that in the women’s final with Pliskova, it is tough. But he knows his best tennis is on grass and needs to let it all hang out. I think he will win at least a set, but I wouldn’t pick him to win the match.”

McEnroe analyzed the Italian’s chances and revealed that he will have to make the most of his strengths. He needs to make Djokovic feel uncomfortable. The serve and the forehand will have to be at their best if he stands a chance to beat the World No. 1.
The seven-time Major holder further added, “Berrettini has a puncher’s chance. He has a huge serve and a huge forehand, but it is about whether he can execute and take it to Djokovic enough. If he can get Djokovic on his heels often enough then it could be competitive.”
