UFC fighter Jon Jones will serve a punishment similar to house arrest. The sentence came after the Light Heavyweight Champion struck a deal with the Alburquerque DA’s office. He plead guilty to DWI and agree to a one year supervised probation, thus avoiding jail time.
The 32-year old’s latest brush with the law came in the early hours of the 26th of March. He was commandeering a vehicle while intoxicated. ‘Bones’ also used a firearm negligently. He must wear an ankle monitor, thus allowing authorities to ensure he does not leave his residence without permission. Further, he will have to install ignition interlock devices on every vehicle he uses. The device ensures the car will start only after he completes a breathalyzer test.
Officials further say that the fighter has to complete an outpatient treatment for a minimum of 90 days. In addition, he must complete 48 hours of community service. His outpatient program participation will be via video conferencing because of the Coronavirus pandemic that has caused a worldwide quarantine.

However, his one-year probation will not deprive him of marijuana. Officials will allow him to use the drug for medicinal purposes only. Notably, Jones reeked of the drug when arrested. Should he fail to adhere to the law, his house arrest and probation will be overturned and he will have to serve jail time without regard for any exceptional circumstances.
