Defending champion Lewis Hamilton has given the Scuderia Ferrari team a lot of credit. His praises come inspite of the fact that he dominated the last 2 races. In fact, he believes that outright speed will not win the 2018 F1 title on its own.

Hamilton bagged victories in Germany and Hungary to head into the summer break on a roll. Now, the Mercedes driver sits pretty, atop the championship standings. But many are of the opinion that Ferrari have a car advantage over Mercedes.

The German outfit firmly believe that Ferrari have a faster car. They say that it is imperative that they respond when the season resumes in Belgium. Hamilton also emphasised on the importance of capitalising on opportunities and having flawless race weekends.

Lewis has stated time and again that Ferrari have the upper hand in terms of pace. However, taking all other factors like performance, strategy and other such things, speed is just one thing. F1 is about how a team manages things, the strategy calls, the mistakes, everything has a major role.

He says that the team have to try and catch them before they claw back the advantage. They need to keep improving other elements, which could give them the edge over Ferrari.

Despite the sheer pace of Ferrari’s 2018 car, Hamilton still managed to amass a 24-point lead.

Even though Hamilton has won five races compared to Vettel’s four, he still does not classify this as a runaway lead.

Instead, he says that it is too early to predict anything. Judging by the unpredictable nature of the season, nothing is set in stone.

He says that anything can happen in future races this season. But the important thing is to keep the pressure on Ferrari. Lewis praised the team’s work ethic and morale to remain motivated.
