Alex Rodriguez has built a business empire since retiring from baseball. The former MLB star slowly invested in a variety of ventures and has a net worth of $350 million today. But A-Rod did not do it on his own; he had inspiration and encouragement from legends around him. Most recently, he revealed how a 5-time NBA Champion helped him overcome impostor syndrome.
The New York Yankees legend overcame numerous difficulties and setbacks to reach the level of success he has. But an NBA legend helped him beat imposter syndrome and helped him believe that he belongs at the top.
Magic Johnson helped Alex Rodriguez get over his imposter syndrome

When aiming for lofty goals and big dreams, it is important to have role models that one can look up to. For Alex Rodriguez, that hero and role model was none other than Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson. Most recently, A-Rod revealed how Johnson helped him overcome his imposter syndrome. He opened up about this while on the Club30 podcast.
During the podcast, Rodriguez said, “But when I saw Magic have a Hall of Fame career, and I watched him closely in showtime. Uh, you know with that great team, Kareem, and led by Pat Riley and Dr. Buss. And then I saw him pivot to be a Hall of Fame businessman, and bring those great skills into the boardroom. And he’s a man of color.”

“That’s the first time I said, ‘Well, why not us? We can do it.’ He’s more like me than just some you know white gentleman that runs Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan. I couldn’t relate to them, but I could relate with Magic. So that gave me the hope, that diminished my imposter syndrome a little bit, A-Rod added.

Notably, out of many of his heroes, Johnson was the ultimate role model that the Yankees legend looked up to. Rodriguez revealed that he dealt with impostor syndrome and suffers from it even now, at times.

While on the Club30 podcast, Rodriguez also opened up on how he faces imposter syndrome today. He said that when he walks into an NBA team owner’s meeting; he sees successful billionaires like Steve Ballmer and Mark Cuban, and wonders if he belongs. But the difference today is that he has a lot of confidence and is able to overcome that feeling.
