After Historic 2022 Season, Aaron Judge Sets the Tone For Fans’ 2023 Expectations With an Honest Admission

62 home runs and a broken American League record, after denying a whopping eight-year, $230 million contract from the New York Yankees, Aaron Judge wrote a new chapter of his life through the 2022 season. After rejecting an annual $29 million payday, Judge stepped into the Bronx and carried the Yankees to the Championship Series. However, despite his individual accolades, and his eventual appointment as the Yankees captain after eight years, Judge’s eye remains on the ring preferred over any other individual achievement.

In a recent interview with Yes Network, Aaron Judge emphasized his approach toward a brand new 2023 season, after an individually stellar 2022. However, sticking to character, Judge made sure to not lay too much importance on the making of new records, but instead simply focus on the process.

During the game against Atlanta Braves, where the Yankees dominated in a 7-0 victory, Aaron Judge spoke about taking each day at a time while improving on a few selected skills.

The 2022 American League MVP spoke about looking at the season as it comes. And how, instead of jumping the gun, he should be looking at each day at a time. He said, “You know, just taking it one day at a time. Just trying to get one percent better every single day. You try to find a couple things throughout the season that I wanted to improve on. If it’s something on the base path defensively, in the box, certain cows situational heading, then you just kind of you know hone in on that. And don’t really look at the big picture.”

Judge added, “Try to find two or three things you can kind of improve on and you know, go to work.”

Following Derek Jeter’s retirement in 2014, the New York Yankees fielded a captain-less team for eight consecutive years. However, this wasn’t an isolated incident for the Pinstripes’ front office. In 1995, when Don Mattingly retired, Derek Jeter had to wait eight years until George Steinbrenner appointed him as the Yankees leader.

Similarly, eight years after Jeter’s retirement, Aaron Judge made the cut and is set to lead the New York Yankees.
