Derek Jeter Reveals His Traveling to Countries as Biggest Surprise

Jeter was one of the best Yankees legends, and during his 20 years of playing career, he traveled to different locations. During these travels, he met people from different nations. talking about a career’s biggest surprise brings to mind the achievements. But the 5x World Series Champion acknowledges his travel experiences as the career surprises he received.

Back in 2012, Jeter and Jack Salzwedel appeared for an interview with DreamBank by American Family Insurance. During his interview there, the legend was asked about his greatest career surprises, and his answer surprised the fans. The former Yankees captain replied, “I think maybe the one thing that surprises me is looking back, all the steps along the way, where my career has taken me.” He continued, “Whether my playing career, Tampa Florida, Columbus Ohio, Albany New York, Greensborough North Carolina, playing with guys from The Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Cuba, I mean going to all these different countries and meeting people. So, I think that was a little of a surprise.”

That’s no all. The legend again continued revealing more, saying, “I think when you’re younger you have a dream and the only part that you dream about is on the field. But I think where my career has taken me has been quite a surprise.” Salzwedel agreed with Jeter, making his points more stronger.

During the interview, the New York Yankees icon offered suggestions to young players on how to handle criticism. According to him, criticism can’t be stopped but can be avoided.

In the sports world, criticism is a regular part of one’s life. There are hardly any players who never received rude comments from fans and rivals. Captain Clutch suggests not to listen to them. He clearly expressed that one can’t prepare for these beforehand, they have to experience it to learn how to handle them.

The Iconic caption of the New York Yankees has received criticism even after he had the greatest achievements in possession. But the legend never responded to them. For him, they are part of life, they motivate to progress, to improve.
