The Toronto Blue Jays have dominated their way into the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees, where Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smashed the franchise’s first-ever postseason grand slam, and rookie Trey Yesavage set a team record with 11 strikeouts in one game.  So, the Blue Jays were resting comfortably after clinching the series 3-1 and awaiting the winner of the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners series, who are battling in a decisive Game 5 to advance to the ALCS.

As that game stretched on and on, and it became clear that Toronto was gaining a massive advantage with every passing inning, the Blue Jays’ official X account posted a simple, wordless GIF of a bewildered boxing referee, whose face perfectly captured the mood of the entire baseball world. The post was an instant and classic troll that reflects the Tigers-Mariners stalemate.

The game that inspired the tweet was a complete pitchers’ duel. The likely Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal, set a new MLB record with 13 strikeouts in the game and was nearly untouchable for six innings. And at one point, he struck out seven batters in a row—another postseason record.

He allowed only one run, only because of a Mitch Garver sacrifice fly, just after a high-IQ stolen base from Josh Naylor. On the other hand, George Kirby successfully kept the Tigers’ offense silent in his 5 innings.

Then a two-run homer by Detroit’s Kerry Carpenter in the sixth gave the Tigers a slim 2-1 lead that they lost in the next innings when Seattle’s Leo Rivas—pinch-hitting on his birthday in his first-ever postseason at-bat—delivered a clutch, game-tying single in the seventh.

After that, for the next seven innings, neither team could score, and 11 different pitchers pitched for both teams. The marathon finally ended in the bottom of the 15th when Seattle’s Jorge Polanco hit a walk-off single off Detroit’s Tommy Kahnle, sealing a 3-2 victory and sending the Mariners to their first ALCS in 24 years, but left them completely exhausted.

Now, that victorious but exhausted Mariners squad must travel to Toronto to face a fully rested Blue Jays team for the best-of-seven American League Championship Series that will start on Sunday, October 12, at Rogers Center.

In that situation, the Blue Jays’ admin’s simple GIF reflects what every baseball fan was thinking. Now. lets see

How fans reacted to the Jays’ perfect post

Fans immediately understood the huge strategic advantage Toronto was gaining with every passing minute. So, one says, “lmao perfect gif. we all know exactly what y’all mean. love from the USA”. “What y’all mean” was that while the Jays rested their players, the Mariners were burning through their entire pitching staff. Seattle used seven different pitchers in the 15-inning game, including key starters George Kirby and Logan Gilbert. In stark contrast, Toronto has its aces, Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage, fully rested and ready for the ALCS. So, one fan perfectly said, “It will be a clean sweep for the Blue Jays, whether it’s the Mariners or Tigers. (Mariners fan here)”.

Some fans even found creative ways to describe the moment. “Sir, the second ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ just happened in Seattle”. “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” is usually sung in the seventh inning. By joking that a second seventh-inning stretch had just occurred, the fan was simply saying that the game had passed the 14th inning.

The Blue Jays posted their tweet deep into extra innings, so after multiple scoreless frames and missed chances, one fan said, “Lol I hate how much I laughed at this.. y’all just sittin back chilling this really might go 20+ innings lmfao.” The Mariners failed to score in the 12th inning despite loading the bases with no outs. So the fan was basically saying that the Blue Jays were watching their future opponent get worn down with every single pitch, and at that point, the comment came: 20 innings truly felt possible.

At the end, one comment perfectly sums up the aftermath of the marathon. As one fan asked, “Who the f– is starting for either team in game 1 next series 💀”. And this is a billion-dollar question because the 15-inning epic left the Mariners’ pitching rotation in shambles. With the ALCS starting on Sunday, October 12, Seattle has only one travel day to figure out who is able to take the load.
