Fans remain skeptical of the New York Yankees management and players. With many missteps and regressions, the Yankees have given their fans enough reasons to be enraged. The common emotion among the Bronx is that the Yankees are stagnant. It’s unambiguous that something has to change, particularly on the pitching front, to be competitive again in 2024.

In a recent survey that the fans participated in, the Yankees found the answers to some unfiltered questions. As passionate as the Yankees faithful are, they are brutal. In the midst of rating their current players, one name has topped the list of the most disappointing players of the season.

The Athletic gathered 5,789 responses and a myriad of opinions. Ranging from those on Brian Cashman to Hal Steinbrenner to Aaron Boone to players and free agents. Among many discussions of the team’s strengths, weaknesses, belief in management, and biggest disappointments, the one about Carlos Rodon stood out. He topped the list of “Which Yankee disappointed you the most this season?” with a gargantuan 52% of fans voting him most disappointing. That being said, the Yankees are in a contemplative loop about this pitcher.

Rodon only made 14 starts because of his frequent injuries, and when he did throw, he performed poorly. In 2023, his K/9 decreased from 12.0 in 2022 to 9.0 in 2023, and he recorded a 6.85 ERA. With that, the $162 million, six-year contract that the Yankees offered the 30-year-old during the winter shows itself as a poor investment. But there is more than one black stain in the 2x All-Star’s run.

The Athletic journalist Brendan Kuty also highlighted the following. His words were, “Rodón’s fastball disappeared, and he was lit up for eight earned runs without recording an out, and he dissed pitching coach Matt Blake by turning his back to him on the mound”. That said, the fans seem to know more about each player than the franchise itself.

Further on the same list, there was Giancarlo Stanton who had disappointed 31.1% of the fans, and Luis Severino, 11.8%. The other names on the list were DJ LeMahieu, Nestor Cortes, Anthony Rizzo, Oswaldo Cabrera, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Everson Pereira in that order with less than 2%. On the bright side, there were some players who gained the support and praises of fans.

The Bronx nation also had more light to throw on a couple of other perspectives in addition to that of the often-injured-Rodon. Gerrit Cole made it to the top of the list of the favorite Yankees this season, sweeping the majority of 45% of the votes. Aaron Judge was a close 2nd. Cole also made it to the most impressive Yankee of the season, bagging a whopping 72% majority.
