Despite His MLB Prowess, Alex Rodriguez Once Made a Rare Move to Save His and Jennifer Lopez’s $2.4 Billion Dream

Even though Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez are not together anymore, their four-year-long relationship continues to make headlines. Together, they were set to become a billionaire power couple with their massive net worths and multitudes of investments. However, the highlight of their ventures as a couple would be their failed deal to buy the MLB franchise, New York Mets. 

The two had a group of investors with them to buy the team, including the billionaire Marc Lore. The group did not leave any chance behind to get the deal done in their favor. While Steve Cohen was close to finalizing the deal, A-Rod gave his all to get the deal in his favor. Thus, as a last resort to stealing the deal from the current owner of the Mets, A-Rod and JLo tried to do something that was never done in MLB history.

To get the sale of any MLB team final, a vote is to be taken place between all the owners of the other teams. All the other owners have to vote in favor of the prospective owner to get the purchase done. A-Rod had almost every documentation of the sale read for the purchase. But considering his history in the game and his connections with performance-enhancing drugs, the group thought it might affect the sale.

Thereby resorting to making the pop icon Jennifer Lopez the control person. Making JLo, the control person would be “a big moment in the history of baseball and the Mets to have the first Latina owner of a Major League Baseball franchise,” according to Marc Lore. He further added, “It would be a really big win for racial and gender equality in this country and the world.”

The group would not have resorted to this if the odds were in their favor. The deal was almost done. But as JLo said, “It ain’t over until it is over.”

A-Rod and JLo’s failed deal: a boon?

In the four years that the couple stayed together, they invested in a multitude of businesses. However, after they broke up, countless meetings took place at A-Rod Corp to carefully divide their assets. Needless to say, it was no less than a rigorous headache for the lawyers on both sides. 

Thus, after they broke up, the attorneys of the ex-celeb couple were thankful that the Mets’ deal did not go in their favor. Because it would have been a nightmare for their lawyers.
