Ex-Miami Marlins Executive Once Claimed He Riled Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez Up With a Clever Tactic

The relationship between the MLB legends Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez is known to everyone. They started off as acquaintances, became friends, then best friends, and then became rivals. Everybody who was close to them knew that nobody could talk about one in front of the other. That much apart they had become over the years. 

After a couple of years, Jeter had shown interest in potentially buying a team of Major League Baseball, specifically the Miami Marlins. He was pretty serious about it as well. At the same time, Yankees’ former player Alex Rodriguez had also shown some interest in buying a team. This bit of news went into the ears of Marlins’ former president, David Samson.

Samson knew both A-Rod and the Captain, and he did not shy away from igniting some fire to get the team sold for higher stakes. Or maybe he did it just for fun. 

Samson took advantage of Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez’s rivalry!

Knowing that both of them wanted to become the owners of a Major League Baseball team, David thought it best to rile up the two to get the team sold for a higher price. He loved the fact that the two disliked each other and wanted to be the owners of the same team.

Therefore, he used to go to Jeter‘s camp and say stuff like, “Hey, Rod’s about to get this team.” Then, he would go to Alex‘s camp, and say, “Do you know that Derek Jeter’s about to own a team, you better up your bid by about a 100 million like in the next five minutes, or Jeter’s gonna get the team.”

The man did play around with the way he wanted to get what he wanted, and he did not lie about it as well.

Meanwhile, the former president of the Marlins had his fun. Eventually, he sold the team to one of the two players.

Among Jeter and Alex, who bought the team, and with how much?

The Hall of Famer legend Derek Jeter bought the Miami Marlins. He did it with the help of a group of investors for $1.2 billion. Also, the shortstop only owned 4% of the stake in the team. While one of his best friends, NBA legend Michael Jordan owned 1%.
