“Experience Matters…”: Days After Derek Jeter’s Subtle Jabs, Alex Rodriguez Stings Yankees While Backing Rangers Amidst Epic Texas Showdown

Winner of the 2009 World Series, Alex Rodriguez is most well-known for his time in pinstripes. The former New York Yankees slugger is all about baseball and keeps in touch with the sport even after retirement. But while his time in the Bronx may be the most popular, A-Rod also spent some time in Texas. The results of 2023, it seems, have brought him closer to the Rangers than the Yankees.
The New York team has gone into a downward spiral in recent years, facing more fan heat than ever. Majority owner Hal Steinbrenner, always a numbers guy, has hired a third-party company to look at more analytics. The firing of hitting coach Dillion Lawson inspired much objection from A-Rod and even former captain Derek Jeter has been critical. Now, Rodriguez has more harsh words as he sides with the Rangers.

The Yankees’ Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have faced the majority of attacks from Bronx fans. Jeter, although not referring to anyone specifically, said a few days ago that first and foremost is an experienced manager for a successful team. After that comes trust in said management, because ownership needs to look at the macro level. Alex Rodriguez is on the same page.
In a FOX Sports segment, the ex-slugger discussed the current Texas Rangers with his analyst crew, including Jeter. After an up-and-down season, the Lone Star state is now headed to the ALCS, and their skipper has a huge role in this success.

“For me, Chris Young, the Head of Baseball, getting that guy right there, Bruce Bochy, he’s a baseball guy…he went out and got Mike Maddux from St. Louis, another baseball guy”, said Alex.

He further added, “Gentlemen, experience matters in October and we see it over and over again. You can’t keep hiring people from Twitter, or X whatever it is, that say they know baseball, it doesn’t work.”
Talent will take one to high places, but experience will take one to the zenith. Now only if the current Yankees would take the Rangers’ example.
Where Are the New York Yankees Headed?

Nowhere good. As far as players are concerned, Yankees GM Brian Cashman has been focused on the Baby Bombers, which is undoubtedly a good direction to go in. But it shouldn’t be their singular strategy. Rookies may prove their worth, but only when a team can allow it.
For a club as run down as the Yankees, this is no time to be experimenting. The last World Series title came in 2009, but for the first time since 2016, the team is not even in the playoffs. That ought to spell major changes, bringing in veterans to the organization.
