Despite the cutthroat competition among teams, brotherhood stands out. Such is the story of Carlos Mendoza and Aaron Boone. The New York Yankees skipper was rooting for his friend and “brother” who had been a part of the mega-organization for 15 years as he steps into a new role with a rival. This is proof that genuine well-wishes go a long way.

After the news of the New York Mets hiring Carlos Mendoza came out, Boone could not contain his excitement. He was all praises about his long-time buddy and was vocal about it on air. As someone who has seen Mendoza grow and excel in the roles he’s taken so far, Boone knew instantly that “He’s the real deal”.

The 50-year-old skipper was hoping for Mendoza to get a managerial role despite knowing that the Yankees would lose a bench coach. And as he interviewed on the telephone with SNY, Boone gave his former bench coach, who will finalize a deal to manage the Mets later this week, a ton of admiration. He said, “He’s the real deal. He’s smart, tough, prepared, and works his butt off. And a very loyal person. He has a great family. And I can count on him, always”. Though a relatively modest name in the MLB world, his capabilities are profound. With that, the Yankees skipper added more to it.

Upon being asked about his not-afraid-to-push-back personality, Boone proudly said that the soon to be 44, never shied away from being strong in his stance. His words were, “He is very strong, very confident. But also very open-minded and in tune with everything in the game. Dealing with players. He’s not afraid to debate, talk”. Having said that, the biggest stand out factor in his personality is that he is humble enough to know that he does not know everything. His acknowledgement that there is always scope to learn more, puts him above others. But what are the Pinstripes losing?

Arnie did address that with Mendoza moving out, there would be a void in the franchise. Apart from being a great friend, he has been a great baseball man. During his time with the Yanks, the upcoming Mets manager built great trust and credibility as an effective communicator. He has been a man to count on, which is all the more a catalyst for his promotion. Now, with this new recruitment, the Mets hope for some stability.

The Mets have struggled with consistency in the dugout ever since Terry Collins resigned in October 2017. In seven seasons, the team has had six managers, with none of them staying in the position for longer than two years. This history in the Mets adds more weight to Mendoza’s responsibilities in his upcoming tenure.

Mendoza will take over as the 25th manager in Mets history, and his task will be to stabilize the organization and the dugout. The Mets have had managers such as Mickey Callaway, Carlos Beltran, Luis Rojas, and Showalter since Collins left. Since then, the team has also had six different heads of baseball operations.
