Fernando Tatis Jr., superstar shortstop and outfielder for the San Diego Padres, has been the center of news lately. Unfortunately for Tatis Jr., not for the right reasons. Notably, after being on the sidelines due to a wrist injury, just as talk of his comeback had begun, Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive for Clostebol, a banned substance. Consequently, he received an 80-game ban from the MLB.

Numerous experts have put forward their opinions on the incident and the blame game surrounding it. Amongst them is Ex-Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez, who had a controversial one on the same. Pedro Martinez, in his 17-year-long MLB career, was a 3-time Strikeout Leader in the American League, 8-time All-Star, and World Series Champion from 2004. In 2015, he was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame too.

What does Pedro Martínez have to say about Fernando Tatis Jr.’s PED scandal?

In the TBS broadcast, Pedro talks about Bebo’s PED suspension and lays his almost outlandish take on the incident. He believed that the team, San Diego Padres, was to be blamed for this suspension. He says, “Now since he got hurt, San Diego is being on top of him. This is where I have to give him a pass, because San Diego should have known what this kid is putting on his body.”

The broadcaster interrupted Martinez and asked him, “You’re saying that the Padres are at fault?” Martinez believed that given Bebo’s importance to the organization, they should have closely monitored his health, recovery, and medicine. As we know, Tatis Jr, while taking onus for the suspension, said“It turns out that I inadvertently took a medication to treat ringworm that contained Clostebol. I should have used the resources available to me in order to ensure that no banned substances were in what I took. I failed to do so.”

While Martinez continued to defend his Dominican colleague Tatis Jr; Jimmy Rollins raises a very fair point. He said, “Go through the right lines. That way, if something happens, he (Bebo) can say this came from the team doctor. You can’t put the Padres at fault with that. If I do something off the field, that’s on me.”
