So what if Shohei Ohtani made an early exit? The two-way phenomenon continues to wow the world of MLB with his bare existence. The big leagues have seen his might as a hitter and a pitcher. Now, with him approaching free agency, he is up for grabs. As soon as he recovers from the elbow surgery that was completed in early October, he will dominate the news! In the meantime, LA Angles star’s remarkable performance is generating quite a buzz among New York Yankees legends.

While people try to analyze his diligence as a two-way phenom, former Yankee, Derek Jeter has opened up about what he thinks. The 5x World Series champion adds an interesting take to the discussion about the 2021 unanimously voted MVP. When asked about his belief about handling offense and defense, he said, “Well it’s an easy question to answer”.

In a recent candid interaction with Ben Verlander of Flippin’ Bats on YouTube, Derek Jeter gave some really unplugged answers. Upon asking about what it’s like watching Shohei Ohtani, Jeter replied calling him a “Unicorn”.

The ex-baseballer added, “You know it’s it’s tough enough to just be a great hitter or offensive player or to be a great pitcher you know for him to be able to do both is pretty remarkable”. Jeter was not shy to admit that he could not imagine doing it.

Jeter’s further explanation proved how unmatched this Angels’ star is. Not many can relate to what and how Ohtani does what he does. Not even Derek himself. Much deservedly, the Japanese-born has made Jeter “run out of adjectives” to describe him. As Jeter poured praises on Ohtani, he highlighted the unfortunate injury that resulted from perhaps overachieving. Or did it?

While Ohtani doesn’t seem to budge from hitting and pitching, Jeter emphasizes the importance of adequate rest. The host was curious about the sustainability of such heavy lifting that Ohtani does. Jeter shared his opinion and answered the host’s question with an indirect but obvious answer.

The 14x All-Star said, “Well it’s an easy question to answer. Now you see that he’s hurt, you know what I mean “. With that, it is inevitable to call back the time Jeter was awestruck when he met Shohei Ohtani for the first time.

First time I met him was when I retired. Briefly, I went over to Japan and I was an honorary coach.” Jeter went on to explain the scenario in detail.

“These two teams we’re coaching playing against each other and Shohei was playing right before then. So it was the first time I saw him and I’d heard about him was when he was playing in Japan. That was when Jeter started vouching for Ohtani.
