McGregor had recently announced that the fight is off and Poirier could search for another fighter. But Dana White put all the clouds of confusion to rest after his recent tweet, where he confirmed the trilogy bout.
With the recent retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Poirier was all set for the lightweight title bout. But instead, he chose McGregor to end theor rivalry once and for all, which stands at 1-1.
Both had met first at UFC 178 in 2014 at MGM Grand, Las Vegas. The fight belonged to ‘The Notorious’ McGregor as he beat Poirier via first-round TKO.
Both had to wait 7 long years for their rematch as Poirier avenged his loss against McGregor in a second-round TKO. This was the first time that Irishman lost via knockout ever in his career. The fight took place at UFC 257 earlier this year.
