The middleweight title will be on the line this weekend as the champion Israel Adesanya takes on Marvin Vettori in an epic rematch. Both men faced each other early on in their UFC career. ‘The Last Style Bender’ secured the win via split-decision. However, many believed that the fight could have gone either way.
While speaking about Robert Whittaker and if a title shot is next for him he said, “Well obviously when he is ready to fight, we will get him a fight. I can’t say oh, he’s definitely next, cause I don’t know if he is ready to be next. I don’t know what he has got planned or what is going. And you’re absolutely right, we roll, we keep moving. We put on fights every weekend. Whoever is ready to fight gets the fight. Costa just got the shot, Whittaker was the no-brainer, he did not want the fight. Vettori is next.”

However, Whittaker declined the fight as it was too short of a turnaround for him and understandably so as he went through a five-round war against Kelvin Gastelum on April 17th. This would not give him enough time to get back home, quarantine, recover, and prepare adequately.
Whittaker is on a three-fight win streak with wins over the likes of Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum. Given his recent performances and the fighters he has beaten, Whittaker absolutely deserves to be next in line for the title shot.
