Jack Hermansson suffered a big loss to Marvin Vettori last night at UFC Vegas 16. The loss means that Hermansson’s bid towards the Middleweight title has taken a hit, while Vettori’s chances have only improved.
Hermansson was initially booked against Darren Till for the event, but Till had to pull out due to injury. He was replaced by Kevin Holland, who had to pull out after testing positive for COVID. Finally, Vettori let go of his UFC 256 booking against Jacare Souza and swapped spots with Holland to face Hermansson.
Vettori went on to get a dominant 4 rounds to 1 decision win over Hermansson in a fight that had the most strikes in Middleweight history. As a result, ‘The Joker’ has some wounds to show.

Those injuries will definitely get Jack a suspension for the foreseeable future. However, he and Vettori put on one hell of a fight, considering the constantly changing circumstances of the fight.

Jack Hermansson: What’s next?
The Joker could have become a top-three contender as a Middleweight. A win here could have gotten him a de-facto number one contender match against Robert Whittaker. Nonetheless, he will take a step back and re-assess his place in the division.
Vettori on the other hand has a whole host of matchmaking options open up. The preferable one may be a clash with Jared Cannonier, who is coming off a loss to Whittaker. However, Vettori has his eyes on former title contender Paulo Costa. Vettori called ‘Borrachina’ out after the fight, so the UFC could also go in that direction.

Hermansson is a wildly talented fighter, and this loss seemingly came down to preparation. He looked awkward opposite Vettori’s southpaw stance. His wrestling failed him, and Vettori landed with too much power for Jack’s liking. He will still be a top-10 contender in the division, so he can pick himself back up whenever his injuries heal up.
