Jorge Masvidal Faces Backlash For Demanding a Presidential Re-Election

Jorge Masvidal is easily one of the best fighters in the world right now. He lost his last fight to Kamaru Usman. In that failed attempt at the Welterweight Championship, he proved that he is actually an elite fighter. Usman had to drag Masvidal to a decision win, even though Masvidal had taken the fight on extremely short notice and without a training camp.
However, Masvidal is also a very political person. He has publicly campaigned and given allegiance to Donald Trump’s campaign to win a second term as the President of the United States. Masvidal actively campaigned for Trump in Florida, a state that went to Trump in the voting.
Currently, the results of the election are still suspended. Trump is on the verge of losing to Joe Biden, and many supporters are crying foul. Masvidal added fuel to the fire by tweeting a graphic that attempts to diminish the Biden voter demographic.

While what Masvidal posted is accurate, it is not indicative of support. Demographic data suggests that most of the ‘red’ parts of the map refer to large swathes of land which aren’t widely populated.
Jorge Masvidal polarizes his fans
One of the first replies to Masvidal’s tweet points out about map not being indicative of the population in those areas. That further trivialized Jorge’s point. While fighters should be encouraged to use their political voice, it is also risky when they communicate information that may cause an uproar in their fan base.
Many replies sought to educate Masvidal on the gaff. This includes former fighter, Nate Quarry. Quarry questioned why the ‘BMF Champion’ leans the way he does, in addition to pointing out the fallacy in the image Masvidal put out.

Many people were also quick to defend Masvidal. They brought up points about how the population for these larger areas of lands should have a voice even if they don’t have the numbers.
On the professional front, Jorge Masvidal will soon look to return to the Octagon. His quest for UFC gold isn’t over, and he will look to rise back to the top of the Welterweight Division.
