Reigning UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal isn’t sure about former UFC dual division champion Conor McGregor making a successful return to the elite level of fighting. The BMF champion recently appeared for an interview with ‘DAZN Boxing’.

The welterweight veteran talked about the upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley, what’s next for Jake if he loses besides Conor’s status.

“I don’t know about Conor, what his actual plans are,” said Masvidal, if Conor will make a return. “If he has actually gold in mind, I don’t know what it is. If it’s money, I would say he has money.”

McGregor recently lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 as he snapped his leg in the dying seconds of round 1. He got immediately stretchered out of the arena before the surgery took place. He will be out for at least a year. This was also his second loss against Poirier on the trot.

Asked if Conor can return to top-level fighting, ‘Gamebred’ seemed unsure about it. “I don’t know. To me, it’s like, a lot like in boxing, right? When a guy gets f*cking knocked the f*ck out the first time, you are always like very interested to see how he comes back,” he added.

“All these questions, that you have… they get answered when… great champions, they get knocked out for the first time and they come back. They re-write history. There are a lot of questions to be answered. (The) same thing, it’s just a lot of questions to be answered.”

What’s next for Jorge Masvidal?

Just like McGregor, Masvidal too has been out of touch for a while. He has competed just twice in the last two years and both have been for the championship. Reigning welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman defeated him twice in a year to nearly end his pursuit for the undisputed title. So, the question is, what next now?

Unlike most other fighters, Masvidal has enough star power to attract fighters even though he has a losing streak. He already has takers. Brazilian Gilbert Burns and Jamaican Leon Edwards have already pressed their cases in front of him. And both these fighters are title contenders.

There is also a case of a rematch with another crowd favorite in Nate Diaz. Both had fought for the BMF title in 2019, where the ‘Gamebred’ captured the title after the cage-side physician ruled out Stockton native to compete after a cut in round 3.
